I am in pain right now and need relief:
..pain killers give me some short term relief,
..can I still take them with my
..Chiropractic Treatment?

This is a common question. The key here is not whether you can continue to take them, you can, but please do not take them in place of seeking actual treatment for the problem you are having.

The combination of pain relief medications and Chiropractic treatment can have positive effects in the acute phase of the injury (i.e., the first 24 to 72 hours). This period is also called the inflammatory phase. It is during this time that pain relief medications can help increase mobility because they mask the pain-spasm reflex.

Masking this reflex will help enhance the initial phase of your Chiropractic therapy -- however, it is well known that pain killers will not do anything to get to the root of the problem. It is the rehabilitative process during the acute, sub-acute, and recovery phases that will be essential for your full functional recovery.
