The difference between the two forms of care lies in the foundation of their approach. Allopathic Medicine primarily takes a pharmacological approach, using pharmaceutical drugs (chemical compounds) to counteract illness and injury. The drugs act either as a suppressant or stimulant, and because they are introduced from outside the body's natural systems, they generally produce a side effect to their intended treatment.
Chiropractic Medicine's foundation lies in the understanding that the body has its own natural pharmacy and it allows your own systems to work to heal itself. By focusing on the central nervous system (which is a primary component in controlling the body's functions), and clearing away the impediments to natural functioning, the body is allowed to operate at an optimum level and heal itself.
Allopathic Medicine has a much tighter focus, aiming for quicker, short-term relief of specific symptoms. Chiropractic has a wider scope, and is more long-term, focusing what is causing those symptoms of pain.
