The intervertebral discs are the pads between your vertebra that are commonly referred to as "slipped". This is not a proper concept concerning the spine, as it is impossible for a disc to actually slip. A disc consists of an outer coat and an inner "gel". This disc creates space between the vertebra and acts as a cushion absorbing stress and supporting movement within the spine.
Over time, micro trauma from improper lifting, poor posture, falls, repetitive stress, etc., damage the outer coat, which eventually ruptures and allows the inner gel to leak out and placing pressure on the nerve that is in the immediate vicinity.
