Foot Problems and Overall Good Health
Even if you're not a professional athlete, good health, and a body free from pain, can enable you to do things you've always wanted to do, or simply help you enjoy every day, healthier & happier. (click the image to the right to see a larger version)

One of the main theories that we abide by at Back to Basics is that, "...all systems of the body are interrelated. Problems arising in one area affect or present themselves as symptoms in other areas. " For your whole body to be healthy, each part must do its individual job. That's why, at Back to Basics, we focus on complete Health Care.

As bipeds, a major part of the foundation of our bodies (and hence our musco-skeletal health) is our feet. Yet its probably one of the areas we neglect the most. Studies have found that 75% of the population will experience foot pain at some point in their lives -- but only 2% will actually seek medical help.

This is particularly disturbing as once you start experiencing foot pain, you will of course start changing the way you walk and begin compensating for the problem, thus causing other musco-skeletal problems in the body (e.g., ankles, knees, hips, back, and their related muscle groups) -- which, in turn, can result in further problems if the whole interaction if left untreated.

Orthotics/Footmaxx
Orthotics are designed as both treatment & preventative aids. Orthotics allow your feet to be in biomechanically correct alignment, easing any pressure that the previous misalignment might have put on other parts of your body, and allowing those areas to begin to heal themselves. This proper alignment then helps prevent future problems from occurring as less pressure will be put on your musco-skeletal structure, thus enabling your body's energy to concentrate on construction instead of repair.

What this means is that instead of the old way where a plaster or foam cast was used to take a static impression of your feet (which only records the shape of your foot at rest, not bearing any weight), the Footmaxx System allows Back to Basics' health care specialists to analyze the way you walk. By obtaining an accurate measurement of the way you walk, we can prescribe the proper orthotic to help your feet function better.

- How The System Works
To get an accurate gait analysis, we have you walk across a computerized forceplate that has 960 electronic sensor points that scan your feet in motion -- 30 times per second -- to obtain an incredibly detailed analysis of the way your feet hit the ground. The forceplate is designed to capture the motion & timing of your foot throughout the gait cycle.

This data is automatically transferred to the computer that is linked to the forceplate, to instantly produce two-dimensional and three-dimensional graphic representations of the pressures under your feet. This same information is also sent by modem to Footmaxx, where specialized diagnostic software determines the right prescription for your custom orthotics, and can also generate a comprehensive gait & pressure analysis, if desired.
